CFPA Support Invergordon Fireworks to go With a Bang 03/11/2011

The Invergordon Fireworks Display was in danger of being a damp fizz this year, but thanks to a last minute cash injection by Cromarty Firth Port Authority, the night looks set to go with a bang.

The evening’s entertainment takes place on Saturday 12th November, by the Invergordon Fire Station and starts at 6.15pm with children from local schools performing the torch light procession, the Bonfire is lit at 6.30pm and the fireworks get underway for 7pm.  Up until 2 weeks ago, the popular fireworks display looked set to be cancelled due to lack of funds but an eleventh hour call to Cromarty Firth Port Authority has meant that residents will not have to be disappointed.  Captain Ken Gray, Chief Executive & Harbour Master said “The Board were delighted to step in and find a way to offer some money for this year’s Fireworks display. “

The crew of the Invergordon Fire Station, with assistance from wives, partners and families, are the organisers of the event and their message to those considering visiting a Bonfire or Fireworks display is to attend one that has been professionally organised, with the correct fire safety measures in place. More than 1300 people are injured every year in the UK from Fireworks and all fireworks should be handled with extreme care.  Those attending the event on the 12th will be able to purchase Sparklers, Burgers and light refreshments and money raised on the night will go towards funding next year’s event.

The Invergordon Station is manned entirely from Retained Fire Fighters, many of whom undertake this professional role in conjunction with other employment responsibilities and this is a busy time of year for them.  Watch Manager Graham Ross, commented “My thanks must go to the Invergordon crew,  those who give up their time to help us build the Bonfire, the Cromarty Firth Port Authority, donations made throughout the year and to all our other contributors for making sure that Invergordon can have this popular family event”.
