Full House for Port Supply Chain Event 07/03/2014
More than 80 industry executives attended the Port of Cromarty Firth and Semco Maritime’s first joint supply chain networking event in Invergordon this week.  This was the first opportunity for many Highlands based companies to meet simultaneously with both the Port of Cromarty Firth and Semco Maritime, to discuss the supply chain’s potential involvement within the port’s expanding rig repair facilities.

The event was held on the back of the announcement that Invergordon had been selected by the Danish rig engineering company Semco Maritime to become its Scottish home base for rig repair and engineering.  The company will invest up to £5million establishing itself in Invergordon, which has been well received by the industry’s leading oil & gas drilling companies, who attended an Aberdeen launch event last month.

Bob Buskie, CEO with the Port of Cromarty Firth said “The event was at maximum capacity. There is such an appetite within the supply chain for service companies to become more involved in major projects and the success and popularity of this event demonstrates that. The interest in this event spread further afield than Scotland; we had enquiries about the event from all corners of the UK.  What a fantastic opportunity for us to listen and explore ways of working together, improving the performance of the region and increasing business opportunities.”

Andy Dodds, General Manager, Semco Maritime UK Rig Projects added “Semco Maritime chose Invergordon above all other UK ports because it is a strategically important location.  For us, this strengthens our position as a prime operator in the North Sea. We also chose Invergordon because of the local based workforce and will use local suppliers as much as possible, which can only be a positive message for the companies and workforce based here.  The Port of Cromarty Firth is widely known and respected within the oil and gas sector for the quality of its offering.”

Commitment by such a respected worldwide engineering company has also enabled the Port of Cromarty Firth the chance to expand its own offering and it will soon be offering logistics and agency services as part of an integrated service approach.   Bob said “this is a logical step for the port and helps to increase the choice and opportunity for our customers and suppliers, which will ultimately ensure we optimise the overall performance of the port in to the future.”
