Permission Granted for Temporary Access Road 01/07/2014
Permission has been granted for a temporary access road to be installed at Linear Park, Invergordon. The road will take 2 weeks to create and will be in place until August 2015.  Permission had been requested earlier this year by the Port of Cromarty Firth as a pre-emptive measure to minimise disruption for Shore Road, Invergordon during the construction phase of the Service Base expansion.

Linear Park will still be accessible by the public and on conclusion of the expansion in late Summer 2015, the ground will be returned back to its naturally grassed finish.

The application was made through the Highland Council planning process and has been granted with a few health and safety requirements, which include a low level fence at the side of the track, a pedestrian crossing and road markings where applicable.

The £25million Invergordon Service Base expansion got underway in April, when a programme of dredging took place.  At one stage there were 2 dredgers working simultaneously to remove approximately 15,000 cubes of material from the sea bed.  The latest phase of the development sees rock being transported to site for use as the rock revetment, forming the north and western edges of the reclamation.  The delivery of rock will be ongoing and the temporary road will avoid potential congestion issues for the town.

The Port held public exhibitions in April, where members of the public were invited to meet the Port team and learn more about the project.  Construction of the road will commence next week. CEO Bob Buskie “The expansion project represents a real chance to attract new business to the area, support job creation and new opportunities for the local supply chain, all of which is to the economic benefit of local region.  The Port of Cromarty Firth is keen that construction and delivery methods used during the expansion take the community into consideration and the temporary access road is a demonstration of this.”
