Port to Reveal New Investment Plans 03/09/2015
Plans for a further multi-million pound investment and expansion project by the Port of Cromarty Firth are to be unveiled for consultation later this year.

The Port has been investigating ways to further enhance the Port at Invergordon, with the aim of strengthening its role as a multi user site, aimed at both existing and emerging markets.

A detailed consultation and engagement process will take place from October onwards and all stakeholders will have the chance to input and influence the look and feel of the Port’s plans.

The Port of Cromarty Firth is a Trust Port and exists to improve and develop the facilities on offer for the future benefit of all stakeholders.  This latest round of investments continues a long history of developments and expansions undertaken by the Port over the last 40 years to help create opportunity and long term economic security and jobs for this region of the Highlands.

CEO of the Port of Cromarty Firth, Bob Buskie, said “This is the early stage of our plans, in fact the final solution is still to be determined and will be based on feedback from the consultation process this Autumn. We know that facilities in Invergordon need to be improved to attract further business growth and employment opportunities.  These plans are even more vital in the light of the recent oil & gas downturn.  We need to ensure the future health of the Port and ensure it is a modern multi-use facility.

He continued “Existing facilities need to be enhanced to better manage the growing size of cruise vessels that we increasingly see in the Cromarty Firth, with larger berths and purpose built facilities.  We also need to ensure we are fit for purpose for offshore renewables and other oil & gas business opportunities.”

Bob added “It is crucial to the Port that a full consultation process is undertaken and that all feedback is taken into account when assessing the final look and feel of our plans.”

Consultation will start from early October and a series of workshops, public exhibitions and engagement will be widely advertised in newspapers and local radio.
