Successful Port Open Day Raises funds for Local Lifeboat 25/06/2012

The Cromarty Firth Port Authority and the Invergordon Lifeboat joined forces for the fifth successive year in staging yet another successful open day at Invergordon despite the threatening weather.  Over £3,000 was raised towards the upkeep of the lifeboat station and a further £500 was donated to the Local Seaman’s Mission.

Among the many attractions available were craft stalls, children’s activities, Highland dancers, live music, lifeboat rescue demonstrations and opportunity to have a ride on one of the Ports pilot cutters and tours of the Invergordon Service Base. In addition members of the public were able to meet the Ports Board and senior staff to find out about the development plans for the Invergordon Service Base.
Captain Ken Gray, Chief Executive and Harbour Master comments “It was an excellent day and the weather stayed kind to us. This event demonstrates the role of CFPA in the local community and gave us an opportunity to both assist our local lifeboat station and show case the ports operations and plans. We were encouraged by the interest and support shown in our £20m investment plans to develop the Invergordon Service Base and the interest and importance placed on the economic regeneration of the port and its role in the local area”. I would like to thank all those members of the local community who took the time to attend this event”.

“The Port also wishes to express its gratitude to the Emergency Services and all those who volunteered their time to help make the day a success.  The Northern Constabulary, Ambulance Service and Invergordon Fire Station were amongst those who attended and brought along appliances for members of the public to explore.  Free trips on the Cromarty Firth waters were available on the Port’s Pilot boat and the RNLI put on an impressive sea rescue display”.
