The Cromarty Firth Port Authority (CFPA) has jurisdiction for the regulation and maintenance of safe navigation in the Cromarty Firth in an area upstream to the Cromarty bridge and seawards two miles into the Moray Firth from the North and South Sutors.
CFPA is the pilotage authority for the Cromarty Firth and operates a compulsory pilotage service boarding inward bound vessels to seaward of the Sutors.
During 2009 the availability of CFPA marine aids to navigation were as follows: Category 1 100% available (IALA required minimum standard 99.8%) 24 hours, 365 days per year Port Information Service is maintained keeping radio watch on VHF channel 11. The CFPA Board is committed to using all facilities at its disposal to ensure a safe, efficient and environmentally aware conservancy function for all its stakeholders.
Two tugs with firefighting capability are normally stationed at Invergordon plus numerous smaller craft also capable of towage.
