Under the Pilotage Act 1987 the Department for Transport has classified the Cromarty Firth Port Authority as a 'Competent Harbour Authority' as defined within that Act and CFPA has therefore assumed full responsibility for the provision of pilotage services within the port area.

The two pilot cutters, Vagrant and Elma G, are available at all times
