Last week the Cromarty Firth experienced an unusually high tidal surge. The surge peaked at 5.3m, far higher than the predicted 4.6m and enabled the Port to once again demonstrate that weather and tides really are not an issue for ships and users of the facilities on offer at the Invergordon Service Base, the high tides causing no restrictions or problems to those operating during this period.

The deep waters in the Firth have long been recognised for their calm, sheltered nature and lack of tidal restrictions. With 4 deep water berths, the Invergordon Service Base has a long history of accommodating semi submersible and jack up rigs alongside its 400m of quay.   Rigs can be seen anchored inside the Firth, cold stacked and taking advantage of the shletered waters.
