CFPA's jurisdiction for the regulation and maintenance of safe navigation in the Cromarty Firth covers an area upstream to the Cromarty Bridge and seawards two miles into the Moray Firth from the North and South Sutors.
Under the Pilotage Act 1987, CFPA, as a Competent Harbour Authority, has full responsibility for the provision of pilotage services within the port area.
During 2010 the availability of CFPA marine aids to navigation were as follows:
-
Category 1: 100% available (IALA required minimum standard 99.8%)
-
Category 2: 99.97% available (IALA required minimum standard 99.0%)
-
Category 3: 99.76% available (IALA required minimum standard 97.0%)
24 hours, 365 days per year Port Information Service is maintained, keeping radio watch on VHF channel 11. CFPA is committed to using all facilities at its disposal to ensure a safe, efficient and environmentally aware conservancy function for all its stakeholders.
Tugs with firefighting capability are normally stationed at Invergordon plus numerous small craft also capable of towage.
